Discover the history of Château du Terral, a majestic residence and former wine estate located in the commune of Ouveillan in the Aude department.
The château
Built between 1889 and 1909, the Château du Terral was the creation of André d'Andoque, a Minervois vineyard owner. He called on Bordeaux architects Louis and Alexandre Garros, renowned for their refined style. The château is built on the remains of an ancient 18th century farmhouse.
In 2005, the Château was listed as a Historic Monument. The following are protected: the château, the chapel, the stables, the state rooms and elements of the original park .
Le Terral, an integral part of the region's historic and cultural heritage, is now opening its gates to wedding celebrations.
The park
The estate is surrounded by 11 hectares of park designed by landscape architect Georges Le Breton: the Aleppo pines, superimposed terraces, granite staircases, fountains and belvedere make up this bucolic setting.The park will later be extended to include a family area with swimming pool and tennis court.
The lounges
The Château blends elements of neo-Renaissance and classical architecture: chain-link façades , stone balconies and elegantly decorated lounges. It reflects the prestige and ambition of the wine-growing bourgeoisie of the late 19th century.

In 1909, a magnificent Gothic Revival chapel was built on the west wing of the building. Despite its unusual size, its use remained private for several generations. This intimate and spiritual space can accommodate around 30 people.
Anecdote: both the architect and the first owner wanted perfect symmetry, which is why the initial plans called for the construction of a greenhouse on the east wing of the house. Unfortunately, this ambition was never realised.
